Sarah Jensen: about me

Growing up in the hills of Northeast Texas, and having a long haired Cherokee grandfather, whom I called Paw-pa, started my quest for legends of my ancestors. The desire to learn about a people I knew little about, but was a registered member of, I set out to discover more. Paw-pa is blind, his memory is failing, and his health poor, so my searches started on the internet. Enthralled with Cherokee legends, I sought to write a romantic story intertwined with mythical monsters and powers to save.

As a first time author, I have reworked this story many times, until it felt right. Until I knew the characters well enough to say, nope, Sam wouldn’t say that. Andrew wouldn’t do that. I don’t always agree with their choices, but to me, they are real and alive, and a force. They do what they want, and they wouldn’t sit back and let me be wrong about them.

You will find part of me in Sam, although she and I have many differences. All of her embarrassed moments happened to me in one form or another. I believe in the ability to laugh at one self, so I add my own embarrassments as a teen and make them Sam’s.

I live in Utah, surrounded by mountains, with my wonderful husband and four beautiful children.

Writing and reading are huge passions of mine. With a Young Adult Urban Fantasy, LEGEND OF THE PROTECTORS, at 91,000 words, Book 2 called LONE PROTECTOR (being edited), and IN THE DARK, an Adult Urban Fantasy (being edited), I’m staying busy. I’m also working on a few other novels.

My favorite bands right now are Radiohead, Blue October (US), Muse, Coldplay, Linkin Park, Matchbox Twenty, Hinder, Breaking Benjamin, The Smiths, and okay, the list continues. But I probably listen to Radiohead the most right now. So in love with them!

  9. I jot down ideas for a few projects. but I won’t start any new ones until I’m finished with all the current ones. I’ve read a few things to improve my writing skills, so I’m running through Legend and the two others I’m editing with those things in mind. I’ve edited Legend’s chapter 1 which is posted. But I do plan on sharing more of what I’m working on on this blog and my other one at http://legendoftheprotectors.blogspot.com/
    So you can follow there too.

  16. Hi Sarah, Not sure if you will get my comment here or not, but I wanted to thank you for your critique on our first 250 words over at Miss Snark’s. Your suggestions are fantastic and if you’re up for it, I’d love for you to read our updated version. Also, I read your post about your brother Michael, and it’s so strange, but I’ve also lost a brother (in-law) Michael. He was 25, and a football coach and we lost him in 2003, the same year my husband and I got married. He was our best man. Anyways, thank you for the critique and thank you for writing about your Michael. I can’t imgagine how difficult that must be. My Michael actually (in a roundabout way) inpsired our book, Gmail.
